Place
Our resort is like none other in Northern California and beyond. It has designed and built, from the ground up, specifically for dogs - to provide for their enjoyment and enrichment while keeping them comfortable and safe. From the moment you enter our grounds, you will see our our attention to detail and “no compromises care” reflected in the cleanliness, thoughtfulness, and design of our resort.
Our modern indoor space is fully climate controlled and features 4 dog lounges, 8 dorm rooms with separate suites, a crate corral, grooming room, kitchen, and retail and meeting spaces. Our lounges and dorm rooms are equipped with comfy beds, televisions and adaptil calming diffusers.
Outside, are five park-like play yards with adjoining patio areas, each designed to facilitate different social experiences. We also have an enrichment yard and pathway where dogs can enjoy treasure hunts and other enrichment activities. And surrounding all these spaces are numerous courtyards, landscaped with star jasmine and other dog-friendly plants that provide interesting scents and textures for dogs. We even have a vegetable garden where we grow seasonal veggies for the dogs to enjoy.
There are double doors, gates, and fencing everywhere, along with a camera system, to ensure safety of security.
And for the humans, our center is filled with art - photography, paintings and drawings, and sculptures because we love color and creativity, especially when it reflects a love of dogs.

We are on-site, awake, and engaged with our canine guests 24 hours a day. Unlike facilities that rely on remote cameras or occasional check-ins on boarding guests, our team is present and actively engaged around the clock. It Starts with… STARTER PEP CAMP!
Dogs who join our PEP Camp program are first enrolled in a 6-visit “Starter Camp.” These orientation days allow for us to get to know your dog - their personality and play styles, enrichment and rest needs, and levels of training.
During Starter Camp we help teach and reinforce behaviors that are needed for your dog’s ongoing success with our program including: coming when called, settling for rest, comfort with handling, calm when being unleashed and leashed, and exercising patience and impulse control, yes, even (and especially!) during moments of excitement. Our goal with Starter Camp is to ensure we are doing our best for your dog and setting them up for long-term success.

Party PEP Camp
“Party Camp” dogs are the true extroverts of the dog world! Dogs in our “Party Camp” program have excellent social skills, communicate well through play, respect their fellow canine companions, and respond well to our attentive daycare coaches. These dogs are usually quite socially experienced.
Party Camp participants are carefully grouped based on size, energy level, and play style. Our four primary Party Groups are: The Littles, Mature and Mellow, Playful Pooches, Rough and Ready.

Buddy PEP Camp
The majority of dogs at PEP Camp are in our “Buddy Camp” program. Social time for these dogs includes a small number of playmates (typically 2-4) that enjoy and benefit from each others’ personalities and play styles. Because Buddy Groups are fun, without being overstimulating, they are ideal for puppies and adolescent dogs, as well as dogs that have distinctive play styles and preferences. Since Buddy Groups provide low staff-to-dog ratios, they also allow staff to actively guide and coach play behavior.

Private PEP Camp
Some dogs prefer the company of people over dogs - or just the dogs from their own household - and that’s okay too! Dogs in our “Private Camp” enjoy one-on-one play and enrichment sessions with our team members. Activities include games such as fetch, sensory trail walks, puzzle toys, scent games, training-for-fun and other forms of play.

The Simple Steps to start PEP Camp
STEP 1:
COMPLETE THE APPLICATION
Tell us about your dog’s personality, history, and needs and provide us with vaccination documentation. Also learn about our policies so we can be partners in your dog’s PEP Camp care.
STEP 2:
Schedule an Evaluation
Once your application is complete, we’ll reach out to schedule an initial daycare evaluation for your dog. This involves an initial meet-and-greet followed by a short daycare session at our center.
STEP 3:
Enroll iN STARTER PEP CAMP!
If your dog agrees that our program will be fun and enriching, we’ll get them enrolled in Starter Camp, our introductory program to set your dog up for long term success.

To maintain a safe and familiar environment, dogs must attend PEP Camp at least once a month to remain eligible for ongoing daycare and overnight boarding.
Before boarding overnight, every dog must complete Starter Camp and have an established daycare routine.
This policy is designed to give you confidence that every dog at The Resort has been thoroughly vetted, making it a safe and welcoming place for your pup.This Policy:
Ensures your dog is comfortable in our environment before an extended stay
Prevents stress and anxiety by keeping dogs familiar with our facility and staff
Creates a safer group dynamic by ensuring all dogs are well-socialized and accustomed to our program.

All dogs who participate in our daycare program must be spayed or neutered by the time they are one year of age.

Dogs who participate in Buddy or Party PEP Camp must be able to join one the play groups with ease.
If your dog is not a candidate for Buddy or Party Camp, they can participate in our Private Camp program instead.

Possibly! With some dogs, we introduce them slowly to our center and staff through short “happy” visits to help build their comfort.
However, your dog must be comfortable interacting with our staff team, our environment, and our routine for them to be part of our program.
Our daycare program isn’t right for every dog. Our commitment to you and your dog is to always do right by your dog, even if it means not including them in our daycare program.

Yes, if they are successful with our evaluation procedure!
With some exceptions for puppies who are in our Puppy Training program, we do require that pups have completed all required vaccinations, so they must be at least 4 months old.

We require that your dog is current on DHPP (distemper-parvo), rabies, and bordetella vaccines. We strongly encourage you to get the CIV (canine flu) vaccine for your dog (NOTE: this is a different vaccination than bordetella). We also require that your dog has had a recent, clear fecal test result.
We require veterinary documentation that your dog has met these requirements.

Before joining The Canine Connection, Avery worked at the Chico Animal Shelter, where he gained valuable hands-on experience caring for animals and helping them find loving homes. His background in both psychology and animal care gives him a unique understanding of behavior and helps him build strong relationships with dogs of all personalities and temperaments.

As a team lead, Lindsay is known for her kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication to both the dogs and the people around her. Whether she’s supporting her coworkers, caring for dogs, or helping a nervous pup feel comfortable, she brings compassion and positivity to every interaction. It’s not uncommon to find her spending her lunch break reading to the dogs, combining her two greatest loves: animals and books.

Reede has been part of The Canine Connection family for as long as they can remember. Growing up, their family fostered dozens of dogs from local shelters and rescue organizations, many of whom participated in The Canine Connection’s training programs. These early experiences helped foster a lifelong passion for animal care and canine behavior.
Over the years, Reed has grown alongside the company, serving as a canine coach, client care coordinator, and now team lead. Their extensive experience in multiple roles gives them a unique understanding of every aspect of the business and helps them provide exceptional support to both dogs and their fellow team members.
Reed earned their Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Studio Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Outside of work, they are an accomplished oil painter and printmaker who volunteers with Chico State’s printmaking program. Whether they’re creating art, mentoring others, or caring for dogs, Reed brings creativity, patience, and dedication to everything they do.

Shannon came to Chico to study Journalism at Chico State and quickly fell in love with the community, deciding to make it her permanent home. After spending several years working as a copywriter, she chose to follow her true passion and transition into a career working with animals full time.
Growing up surrounded by dogs, cats, and even chickens, Shannon has always had a deep appreciation for animals and the unique personalities they bring into our lives. In addition to her role at The Canine Connection, she also works for a local pet sitting company, giving her plenty of experience caring for pets of all ages, sizes, and energy levels.
When she’s not spending time with furry friends at work, you’ll likely find her with her two dogs, Hudson (pictured), a lovable Lab mix, and Olive, her gentle German Shepherd mix. Originally from Monterey, California, Kaia moved to the North State with her family because of their shared love of nature and the outdoors. Animals have always been a big part of her life, and she grew up surrounded by a wide variety of pets, including dogs, cats, hamsters, reptiles, and even tarantulas.
Kaia’s passion for animals extends far beyond dogs and cats. Her lifelong experience caring for many different species has given her a deep appreciation for the unique needs and personalities of all animals. She is also an avid horseback rider and an amateur horticulturist who loves spending time tending to her ever growing collection of plants.
Kaia lives in Magalia with her husband and their beloved pet family, which includes Alro, her Pit Bull mix, Marzipan the cat, a turtle, a fish, a tarantula, and a snake. Growing up around horses and guinea pigs, Audrey developed a deep appreciation for animals at an early age. Horses, in particular, have remained a lifelong passion, and she loves spending time around them whenever she can. Her experience with animals, combined with her scientific background and attention to detail, makes her a thoughtful and dedicated member of the team.

Alina Lopez is an Animal Science Pre-Veterinary student at Chico State. Originally from San Diego, California, and raised in Cozumel, Mexico, she developed a deep passion for animals and their welfare at a young age. Growing up, she frequently visited the San Diego Zoo with her family, an experience that further fueled her dedication to animal care and behavior. This lifelong passion has now led her to The Canine Connection.
Alina aspires to become an animal behaviorist and service animal trainer. Her ultimate goal is to make service animals more accessible for individuals with disabilities and to help people better understand animal behavior, ensuring the highest level of care for their beloved companions.

Ph.D. Communications Technology, Michigan Technological UniversityWhen JD was in grad school In Michigan, she missed her Chico dog so badly that she exercised and fostered dogs for the local humane society. When she moved back to Chico, she brought along her four newly adopted dogs.
Thirteen fosters and several additional rescue adoptions later, JD stays busy running family businesses, enjoying the Chico orchards with her husband and their three border collies, and lovingly caring for our overnight guests.

Chloe is a proud mom to a senior Pit Bull/Boxer mix, Homer (whom she met & fell in love with when he was being fostered by The Canine Connection for Chico Animal Shelter) and the sweetest little leopard gecko you could ever meet, Smuckers.

Originally from Sacramento, Finn fell in love with Chico’s welcoming community and natural beauty and decided to make it home. Having grown up around animals, they have always felt a strong connection to pets and the joy they bring to people’s lives.
While Finn loves working with dogs at The Canine Connection, they also have a special passion for cats. They volunteer with the Chico Cat Coalition, helping support local cats in need and advocating for animal welfare within the community. Their love for animals extends into every aspect of their life and shines through in the care and attention they provide each day.
At home, Finn shares their life with three beloved cats: Honey Bun, Squid, and Nyx. When they’re not spending time with animals, they enjoy exploring the outdoors, searching for treasures while thrifting, and attending local community events around Chico.

CANINE TECH
Born in Chicago, Lili moved to Northern California with her family and quickly developed an appreciation for the area’s natural beauty and outdoor lifestyle. She is currently attending Butte College, where she is studying Natural Resource Management and pursuing her passion for the environment and conservation.
As a Canine Tech at The Canine Connection, Lili combines her love of animals with a strong commitment to providing safe, attentive care for every dog she meets. Dogs have always held a special place in her heart, and she enjoys getting to know each dog’s unique personality while helping them have a fun and positive experience.
At home, Lili shares her life with her two beloved Pit Bulls, Murphy and Penny, who keep her active and constantly entertained. Whether she’s spending time with dogs, studying, or exploring the outdoors, Lili brings enthusiasm, compassion, and a genuine love of animals to everything she does.

I utilized puppy social, kindergarten training, daycare, boarding and grooming services, which all contribute to the friendly, happy 100# dog he is today. The Canine Connection is his second home, and he runs to the gate as soon as he arrives. The facilities are safe and clean, and the staff is loving, friendly, patient and educated in positive dog training.
I think I trust The Canine Connection more than my own family to care for my sweet fur baby Bohdi. His smile tells me he loves The Canine Connection!”
