Our Continuing Ed programs are designed to be fun and rewarding for both you and your dog. After completing one of our Level 1 courses, such as Puppy Kindergarten or Life Skills & Manners, you’ll be ready to take your skills even further with our Continuing Ed classes.

Refine the skills you've learned, explore dog sports like Agility and Rally-O, prepare for therapy dog activities, build your dog’s cognitive skills, and improve their comfort with veterinary or grooming procedures. You can also enjoy teaching fun tricks, and more!

LEVEL 1
6 weekly sessions | $375

Life Skills And Manners

Our Life Skills & Manners curriculum focuses on helping you and your dog learn together. Through this flagship curriculum, you’ll learn how to better understand, communicate with, and teach your dog core skills that make for a happier dog and more enriching partnership.

This training provides the foundation your dog will need before continuing on to Level 2 and Level 3 trainings.

Also available through private training ($900) so you can address specific behavior challenges and get focused instruction tailored to your dog. Available in person or over Zoom.

    • Pay attention to you, even when there are distractions

    • Wait calmly for things he or she wants

    • Greet people calmly (as opposed to jumping on them boisterously)

    • Perform rock solid “canine calisthenics:” sits and downs

    • Relax, settle, and stay

    • Learn to walk nicely on a leash

    • Come when called – quickly and reliably

    • Feel calm, cool, and collected around other dogs and people

    • See their learning (your training) as an activity that is rewarding and fun!

    • Small group class setting in our spacious, climate-controlled training center

    • Six (6) class sessions PLUS online orientation videos. Each class session lasts about an hour

    • Access to our student portal with videos, handouts, and training advice

    • Essential training equipment ($75 retail value):

      • 20 ft. recall long line

      • Gear bag

      • Deluxe treat bag with belt

      • Training bowl

      • Clicker and wrist band (you are not required to use a clicker but many people like to)

    • Your dog, if newly adopted, must have been in your home for a minimum of two weeks prior to class commencing. If you need help prior to your first class session, please consider scheduling a private lesson.

    • Completion (with veterinary documentation) of the following vaccinations:

      • Annual parvo-distemper vaccination (often called DHPP)

      • Bordetella/canine cough

      • Rabies vaccination

    • NOTE: Vaccinations and procedures MUST have been administered at a veterinary office or by a licensed veterinarian. Please ask your veterinarian to email your puppy’s records to us at training@thecanineconnection.com.

Adolescence is a challenging stage as dogs undergo rapid physical, social, and cognitive changes, much like human teenagers. With patience, education, and continued positive training, we can help you through this phase!

Does your dog suddenly go deaf when you call “Come”? This class uses fun games and real-world practice to build a fast, reliable recall—making sure coming back to you is always the best choice!

leash Manners And More

Is taking your dog a walk a chore instead of a delight? If your dog tugs or weaves when on leash, making a leisurely walk difficult, then this class will help you learn the necessary skills to make your walk a pleasant, positive endeavor. Note: this class is NOT for dogs who are “reactive” on leash, ie. those that bark and lunge at other dogs. But don’t worry, we’ve got a class for that!

FUNgility

If your dog loves obstacles such as jumps, tunnels, and ramps, FUNgility is the activity for you! In this class we introduce you and your dog to important basics of agility, all in a safe, non-competitive way. The focus of this class is on teamwork, handling, confidence building and… FUN!

Tricks For Clicks

We love teaching tricks, and not just because they are fun to train and perform. We love tricks because they also build confidence, training skills, and teamwork. Plus, a repertoire of tricks in your dog’s toolkit can support learning many other behaviors too! Graduates of our “Tricks for Kicks” class can gain tricks titles too!

Cooperative Care

Does your dog struggle with receiving important veterinary or grooming care? Cooperative care helps you and your dog develop a language and approach that makes handling less stressful.

The Cognitive Canine

This advanced class helps dogs become independent thinkers and problem solvers through engaging games and challenges, while also improving their humans' training skills. It's a great foundation for dog sports and other teamwork-based activities.

Hounds Around Town

Take your dog’s manners on the road! This class meets in different locations around Chico, helping your dog master leash skills, stay focused in distractions, and wait patiently while you chat or grab a coffee. Perfect for dogs with a solid training foundation ready for real-world practice!

Rally-O

Rally-O (also known as Rally Obedience) is a fun, interactive dog sport that involves you and your dog navigating a course with 10-20 stations in it. At each station, you’ll find a sign that calls on you and your dog to perform a skill together such sit, down, pivot, U-turn, stay, come, and more. It’s a great way to put the fun in your practice and set new goals for your training. We love Rally-O for fun but for those who like competition, you can compete through various sanctioning bodies for titles!

Dr. Sarah and her staff are the most professional, caring, helpful and awesome group of dog lovers around.

Abby and I have taken 5 classes and I can hardly hold this 24 pound dog back as she leaps forward to attend class, daycare or boarding. Whether it be kindergarten puppy class, tricks, agility or therapy dog training, there are all levels of the highest quality of trainer/canine education available. Their kind, positive training techniques work and it so rewarding to see such marked changes in such a short time. They treat each dog and their guardian like family. And, it’s so much fun!
